The concept learning of collaboration throughout SCLA111 gave me an important impression towards group and team work in college studying. Before college, I had never encoutered any formal school assignments with collaboration elements in my earlier education. Despite understanding that collaboration defines a work result of serveral people's effort, it was difficult for me to realize it in an academic background. So after I began my college study, I wasn't clear about what a team role is in a collaboration project regardless of the subject and I tend to slow my team down because of that. By going through the two projects in SCLA111 I have not only gained new skills and experience related to collaboration work but also able to have a deeper understanding thanks to my reflection work like Project 2 Reflection.

In this reflection I would like to mainly summarize two different aspect of what I can benefit from the concept of collaboration in my SCLA111 experience of Project 1 and Project 2. In Project 1, me and my group mate were assigned to research on a specific city in a specific US state. As both of us are international students, it was a great challenge to us to step into learning American culture as our first project in class. Luckily for us, there were a rich amount of sources we could obtain the search information, so my group was not struggling to get enough contents that would grab the interest of our audience. However, the complicated vocabulary of events and places made me and my group mate really nervous about the presentation itself. And that brings to one valuable aspect of collaboration I gained from my Project 1 experience: encouragement. When we both got nervous of the presentation, me and my group mate told each other it was not a big deal to do a presentation that is not even half a class's length. As a result, both of us were able to get through the presentation smoothly as we thought. I should point out that this sense of encouragement from collaboration is different from what one can get only emotionally from another that is not in the same party of collaboration and is more than useful for overcoming the weakness of each member in the task. As for my experience in Project 2, it is from the reflection of the project preparing progress I can relate to the concept of collaboration. The other of the two main aspects of collaboration I can reflct is individual role in a team of collaboration. In almost all of my previous classes' group assignments, I ended up doing a specific numerial portion of the project without a clear team role, so I could not realize how helpful it is to spread out the group work by each member's role until I finished my Project 2 in SCLA111. In my reflection on project 2 work, I was not only able to conclude what me and my group can do better in the project, but more importantly how surprised I was experiencing the power of individual roles in group work.

By doing this project, I think it is important to learn about the concept of collaboration is to understand how powerful and helpful it is to appropriately use it in our life, specifically in academic area. My first reason is we should have a correct attitude towards a colllaboration project. If we treat a collaboration project as simply a divided up portion of work without the connection with other members in a group, we wouldn't be able to utilize the power of collaboration. For example in a collaboration work of presentation, the oral communication and good cooperation of each member is very important. Constant communication between each member can help with work efficiency and presenting effect a lot. Another reason is understanding what a team role is and finding one in a collaboration work also contributes to the final result of work. Our SCLA111 project 2 is a very organized project from its main thesis. Each member of my group was able to identify our roles in the preparing of the project so that we could focus on each area of the project we were good at. To be specific, one of us focused on the vidual design of the presentation slides; one of us focused on the media and detailing notes of the presentation; and one of us was in charge of composing texts and scripts of the presentation. In short, understanding communication and team roles are important parts of learning collaboration concept.

Reconstruct

In conclusion of this reflection, the concept of collaboration impressed me by showing me that a team work is not simply its word by word meaning, there is a lot to understand in order to treat the collaboration work correctly and find its strength. For me, the result of supportness from the communication and utilizing the individual strength in a group
